Equifax Data Breach Could Result In Identity Theft

Equifax announced that their data had been stolen from their systems and could potentially impact 143 million US consumers.  The data stolen includes names, social security numbers, birthdates, addresses and drivers’ license numbers.  Fraudsters can use this information for years to come and potentially steal your identity to open new accounts and obtain loans.

Equifax has established a website to determine if your personal information has been impacted and is offering FREE ID theft protection and credit file monitoring for one year.  Go to www.equifax.com for more details.

How Can You Protect Your Accounts?

·         Review your account regularly. *** Sign up for online banking and download PDFCU’s mobile app so you can review your account as often as you like.

·         Be Alert to suspicious phone calls and emails.

·         Never give your account number, card number or pin to other people.   Memorize your pin and don’t write it on or anywhere near your card.

·         Choose strong passwords and change them often.

·         Check your credit report at least one time a year. Go to www.annualcreditreport.com

·         If you have a debit card or credit card with PDFCU, expect additional questions and stronger authentication for us to verify your identity.

***Studies show that those who monitor their accounts online often detect fraud earlier than those who wait on paper statements.
